Arab Jabour And Al Buaytha Return To Sense Of Normalcy
It is amazing what a little item like streetlights can do. A sense of security, and one of safety is gradually settling over the streets of Al Buaytha and Arab Jabour. For about a month now, these streets have been lit up by newly installed streetlights.
Soldiers attached to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry installed street lamps just about a month ago.
Citizens and CLC groups had requested the lights, to allow for shopping, walking and generally having a sense of safety and peace of mind. Since installation the local businesses have slowly started to stay open longer, and it has been more accepted to be out visiting, socializing, or even shopping after dark
CLC stands for Concerned Local Citizens and is very close to what a Neighborhood Watch groups are in the United States.
“These lights are just one in a number of steps we are making,” said Yassin Majid Yassin. Yassin is a CLC member in the Arab Jabour group. It is hoped that as things continue to improve that CLC groups and individual citizens will begin to embrace responsibility for their own community.
While the CLC groups are growing and performing very well, for now the over watch capacity and security falls to Coalition soldiers. Troops with the 1-30th Headquarters and Headquarters Company provide a vigilant watch over the community.
“Anyone that has been in the dark will tell you, lights provide safety and security, and you can identify people easier when its lit up at night,” said Yassin.
