Coalition Troops Kill Two Insurgents And Arrest Twelve Others
A series of successful raids yielded a large terror catch. Coalition forces arrested twelve suspects, and two were killed in raids conducted in North Iraq and the Baghdad region.
Joint forces performed a series of coordinated operations near Muqdadiyah to deal with suspected Al-Qaida in the region. A network of terror had been in the area of Diyala River and the surrounding valley. Coalition and local Iraqi forces have forced the insurgents to go elsewhere.
Recent intelligence had shown that the area was a safe haven and frequented by several cells of Al-Qaida especially during the last several weeks. These cells have been responsible for several executed citizens, and various torture and other evil acts. During the raid one building was destroyed and several others badly damaged.
Coalition forces also performed a raid in the Kifri area. Alleged terror suspect Ansar Al Sunna was apprehended, and held for questioning. He is wanted in connection was a number of kidnappings, torture and other atrocities.
Al Sunna was held previously but escaped.  During the escape a great number of people were injured, and five Iraqi policemen were killed.
“Our operations are being more and more successful, and we are chipping away at the Al-Qaida organization across Iraq,†said Navy Captain Victor Beck. Captain Beck is a spokesman with MNF-1.
Further north in the Mosul region, two insurgents were captured and five killed. Coalition forces are slowly winning the war, but also the competition for trust with the locals. The majority of Iraqi citizens do not see al-Qaida as a friendly.
