Sgt Sotebeer Takes Duty Seriously As He Cares For Fellow Soldiers
Working in the Army is a job calling for teamwork, but also needs individual discipline and ability to work as a single unit. Soldiers that are posted to a combat zone quickly come to this knowledge. Teamwork is key but so is the ability to accomplish things as an individual.
Staff Sgt. Sotebeer is an ER medic that works in the field with his squad, and a medic who takes his job quite seriously. His duties as a medic, whether stateside or deployed with 2nd Stryker Cav Regiment in Iraq are ones that directly impact others.
Sgt Sotebeer is the squad medic, and takes care of injured, wounded and sick soldiers. But he also works to assist in maintaining squad vehicles, ambulances, and other primary evacuation equipment. “I accompany my squad as a medic more than most, I like going out into the field,†said Sotebeer. His Stryker team goes into the field about three times, or more a week.
It is vital that vehicles be checked before going into the field. When on a mission it is too late to find your vehicle does not work. “To maintain combat readiness, vehicles have to be all set,†said Sotebeer.
When not working actively as a medic, Sotebeer has also been working to remodel a building. The building will be tasked as the Regiment Troop Medical Clinic. Sgt. Sotebeer is a hard worker and well regarded, and sees his role as a medic as an important one.
“My face is often the first and last thing someone sees after taking a hit,†said Sotebeer. “I am proud to be able to give relief and treatment on the fly, being a medic is challenging,†said Sotebeer.
