Coalition Trained Iraqi Engineers Successful

Coalition Trained Iraqi Engineers SuccessfulEastern Baghdad Neighborhoods Receive Sewer Installation

As the different areas in and around Iraq are slowly rebuilt, it is with pride that more and more of the projects are being completed by Iraqi Engineers, citizens and Iraqi forces.  Areas around Sadr City will benefit from a huge new sewer project that is under construction.

And this time, it is being planned, and built entirely by Iraqi construction workers and Iraqi Citizens.

Various MiTT and Army engineers have worked to train and supply Iraqi citizens to begin to rebuild their own country.  As time passes, more and more of these projects are taking shape.  The sewer project will stretch across the Sadr City area, and no longer will raw sewage be lining some streets.

“Citizens are already getting excited about the new improvements,” said Mustafa Haddad.  Haddad is an Iraqi Engineer that has trained with U.S. Army Engineers. “We have been toiling on this one project for a couple years now, and through it all the community citizens have been very patient and supportive,” said Haddad.

Up to now there have been areas in the Sadr City region that have had to endure sewage in the street.  With the new sewer system it is hoped that this type of condition will be eliminated.

Haddad is the head of the Loyalty Office, part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  There are several projects underway, and more then twenty full time Iraqi Engineers work out of the office that Haddad oversees. “We are doing this because it is very important to our people, our community.  It’s been a time of great difficulty, but things are improving,” said Haddad.
