Iraqi Citizens Greeted By Foot Patrol

Iraqi Citizens Greeted By Foot PatrolApache Troop Walks With Locals And Hears Concerns

It is becoming more and more common in areas of Iraq for soldiers serving with Coalition forces to get out among the people on foot.  Well, recently the soldiers with 3rd Armored Cavalry regiment did just that.

Members of Apache Troop has been going on foot patrol in the area of Qayyarah, with wonderful success.  The people got used to the soldiers on foot gradually, but now exchange greetings and seem genuinely happy to see them.

“It is excellent, it is the first time that we have been out on foot and patrolled without a vehicle,” said Captain Steve Wojdakowski.  Captain Wojdakowsk is Apache Troop Commander.

Setting up the patrol was a joint effort between the Qayyarah Iraqi Police, the National Iraqi Army, and Coalitions troops.  “It is a positive thing for the local citizens to see us, coalition forces working hand in hand with Iraqi Police forces.”  Said Wojdakowski.

“We are being well received, everything is working out well,” said Staff Sgt Anderson.  Sgt Anderson is detail leader to Apache Troop.  Apache soldiers walk through the entire area, and get to know the shopkeepers and store owners.  This allows the soldiers to see firsthand the areas of concern, and to get a better idea of what is needed by the citizens as they slowly rebuild their village.  “People seem honestly and genuinely happy to see us here,” said Captain Wojdakowski. “People are starting to open up, and trust us.” Said Wojdakowki.
