Second Generation Soldiers Carry On

Second Generation Soldiers Carry OnPrivate Forit And Brother Follows Footsteps Of Father During Wartime

Some families have multiple generations of soldiers that serve their country with pride. Such a family is the Forit Family.  Private Chris Forit, Jr. made up his mind that he wanted to follow after his Dad in joining the military.

So, convincing his brother Derek to join him, Chris enlisted in the Army.  Both Forit brothers joined on the Buddy plan, and were able to go to boot camp together.

The Forit family are natives from Fresno, California.  The eldest, grandfather Forit served with pride during the Korean War, as an infantryman.   Christopher’s father was in the Army in Italy for several years.

“I was able to join with my brother Derek, we went in the same day and joined the Army together,” said Chris.  Despite knowing he would likely wind up in Iraq or Afghanistan, Forit was excited to be able to join.

Derek works as a cook in the Army.  “I was very excited to learn I would be deploying to Iraq, both my girlfriend and my family have been very supportive,” said Derek.

“Derek is a great soldier,” said Sgt First Class Williams.  Williams is the enlisted non -com who is in charge of the dining facility.  “He has a rapport with the people he works with, and does an excellent job,” said Williams.

Someday after retirement, Forit may be able to look back on his time and reminisce with his grandchildren.  Forit plans to make the military his career, even after returning from Iraq he plans to continue at whatever duty station he lands at.
