secrets-to-taking-the-asvab-testEveryone who chooses to enlist in the United States Military has to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB Test. A few decades ago, the United States Military wanted to have a way to classify and rate the people who wanted to enlist, so they came up with the ASVAB test procedure.

It is a battery of tests designed to test and see what applicants to enlist know, and what their skills and potential abilities are. It is not a test that is designed to embarrass, but one to help decide where you can best and most successfully serve your country in things or skills that you have a knack for.

A person has about 3 hours to take the ASVAB, each of the tests in the battery of tests has a short time limit, all the tests together add up to about 3 hours. There are some hints and tricks to increasing your score in taking the ASVAB. These include:

Study- This seems silly to some, but there are effective test study programs available on the market. Some of these are both available in bookstores, and some are free on the Internet. But find a program recommended by your Armed Forces Recruiter, and then work to increase areas that you need to brush up on. You won’t be sorry you did.

Evaluate- Sit down with your parents, a friend, or even your Armed Forces military recruiter and identify what jobs you might like to pursue in the military. There are minimum scores that are required, if you choose a certain job or vocational field you have to make sure you can qualify with a high enough ASVAB score.

Environment- When you get closer to the actual test, make sure you are getting enough rest, and refrain from any activities that will distract or prevent you from doing well. Avoid any alcohol or substances that will impair your thinking, and get a good night’s sleep the night before.

These simple things will help you get a job or career in the Military that not only meets your needs but that can help you get a good job after your military service in the civilian sector.
