2nd Infantry Division Coordinates With CLC Citizens
Performing combat operations in Iraq has been routine since the beginning of American Involvement in Iraq. But what has been less routine has been the ability of soldiers to reach out to the community.
4th Stryker Brigade Troops recently distributed food, clothing and other supplies to local citizens while on patrol. The supplies were very well received, and helps continue the trend toward improved community relations.
Sgt 1st Class Keith Sekishiro is the non commissioned officer in charge of 2nd Platoon. “We are always vigilant but it sure is nice to be able to assist people this way,†said Sekishiro.
Northern Hashmiyah has been controlled until recently by Al-Qaida, but has been retaken by Coalition and Iraqi Forces.
The food was a welcome thing, with the onset of winter many citizens have been struggling. Food, cooking oil, and clothing were part of the distribution passed out by Stryker Brigade.
“I am excited and thankful, not only that Saddam is gone but that we can receive such kind aid and food.  My land is finally starting to heal,†said one grateful Iraqi man. The man was at the distribution point with his wife and two children.
“We used to provide all the security, but now Iraqi Concerned Local Citizens groups have taken over responsibility and are performing well,†said Sekishiro.  “It is exciting to see Iraqi citizens thriving, doing so well and growing,†said Sekishiro. Iraqi citizens are becoming more and ore self-sufficient each month.
