Computer Careers in the NavyOperating, repairing, and using computers in the U.S. Navy can be a very rewarding career choice.  Getting training while in the Navy can set you up for many lucrative jobs after you no longer are in the military.  Tracking inbound or surface threats, working with various classified and unclassified information, using satellite systems, and detecting enemy radar, these are all things that you maybe involved with or trained to do if you choose Computers as your job choice in the Navy. The United States Navy has more than four thousand aircraft, and over three hundred ships.  Each and every one of these aircraft and vessels are equipped with the latest in technology and computers.  Using the latest in computer gear, and state of the art software, you will be responsible for operating, installing and maintaining the most advanced equipment anywhere in the world.  You will be a direct link in national security and be part of maintaining high mission readiness and overall daily fleet operations status. Servicemembers in the field of computers handle classified and unclassified materials as a matter of course each day. You will be called on to operate state of the air electronics equipment, as well as having the ability to diagnose and repair many of these systems.  Some of the other duties you may encounter you may be asked to: -Collect and analyze radio and various electronic signals. -Deal with technical schematics, charts and other technical type manuals. -Use and operate successfully underwater communication and sonar type equipment. -Identify and discern between different sounds from torpedoes, sonar, ships, and marine life. -Communication with other ships in the fleet. -Analyze and identify radar signatures and interpret them. -On-site preventative maintenance and problem solving while repairing state of the art equipment. Information technology and Computers in the Navy involve a great deal of maturity and responsibility.  It goes without saying that discipline and hard work make up a number of things that a qualified Computer specialist in the Navy must have.  Working in this field can made you ready in one or more of the following areas for possible careers in civilian life: -Computer Hardware Analyst. -Computer Operator or programmer. -Computer Systems Administrator. -Data Base Administrator. -Computer Scientist or other computer specialty.
