If you like adrenalin, and working in a fast paced environment, then working as a Naval Aviation job may be the career for you. Working on the flight deck has been described as perhaps a ballet that occurs in the middle of Dantes Inferno. No matter how you describe it, it is always active, sometimes dangerous, and most of all busy. Flight deck launching and recovery of airplanes or helicopters is a very choreographed maneuver, one without a lot of room for mistakes.
Every time that a F/A 18 Hornet Super Jet takes off, or one of the US. Forces Cobra or SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, there is a host of people that have worked hard to make sure they were ready, pre flight inspected, and able to take off at a moments notice. The people behind these operations are the highly trained and courageous enlisted men and women of the Navy Aviation Flight crew. Sailors and Aviator personnel in the Navy deal with all kinds of details in flight operations, their main job is to make sure that the aircraft and crew can leave the flight deck and return safely. Some of the different duties of Aviation flight deck crews include:
-Maintain and inspect Navigation systems, safety systems, and electrical systems.
-Inspect and repair parts of aircraft including fuselage, wings, engines, and landing gear.
-Double-check and inspect pilot personal safety gear.
-Maintain steam and hydraulic systems that launch aircraft.
-Inspect, repair and maintain brakes, landing gear, and related systems.
-Electronically track submarine, aircraft, missiles and ships.
-Handle and park aircraft and assist in all recovery and launching of all Naval Aircraft.
Most of the training that you will obtain in this field is hands on, but there is extensive classroom study that is also needed. Operations and advanced technical training in the field of aviation is also available. Civilian careers that this job will prepare you for are numerous, and they include: Sheet metal fabrication, Electronics mechanic, Aircraft Mechanic, Aviation Support technician, Computer Peripheral operator and other jobs. There are a lot of skills and training that you will receive as A Aviation specialist that can transfer directly to the non-military world. Companies in the government, law enforcement, airline industries, and civilian airports are all seeking qualified candidates with aviation field skills.
