Tim Fender get in contact with a recruiter but don’t go strait to navy, marines, or army. Visit them all and see what they have to offer when you find the career you want. I am currently in the process of picking between navy and army for a combat medic but I have yet to decide which is my best option.

@ Adam….. If you decide to go combat medic in the Army then it will be very difficult to make it past e-4. That job is the hardest to get promoted in all of the Army. Ask your recruiter what the promotion points for E-5 are for that MOS and look how many people are currently qualified for promotion, but they can’t get promoted. Up to e-4 is automatic after that there is a point system to get promoted and you can ask your recruiter about that. I hope this helps! A lot of what you see on the pictures and videos aren’t what you actually do on a day to day basis. You really need to do some research.

Hello!! Whats up with Fire Support Specialist?? I am ready to enlist and I talked to my recruiter about getting that MOS just about 2 weeks ago and he said that it is really hard to get it because most of the people stay in that MOS…so is he not telling me the truth? because I will love to have that MOS can someone please reply to this? thank you.

hey scott what is the different things you do in the e-4 and e-5

military dot image Dave Golladay    Thumb up 1 Thumb down 1

Andy in Air Force it was/ is? called Fire Protection Specialist ( fire-fighter). Fire support could be fire-fighter or may have something to do with calling in fire support for artillery. Call a recruiter or look online at job descriptions.

“CRYPTO-LINGUIST Analyst”. If you score high enough on the ASVAB this is the job you pick! I am an ARMY veteran, joined in 1989 as a reservist and a year later went active duty. Took a break in service for 2 years after my mom died and joined again. LOVED it!….hard work!…but LOTS of rewards! Definitely will not get this experience on civilian side of the house. Linguist is like a translator. All different categories in this job. “Crypto” means in writing. You will take a “D-Lab” test to see if you can pick up a foreign language. If you pass that test, then they send you to Monterey California for school. If you get on as an “Interagator”?…you will go to a few more schools. :-) PERFECT job if you want to step out after enlistment into the CIA, FBI, Intelligence fileds. I turned down Linguist school ( I was young and dumb), went medical, laboratory and then applied for CYTOLOGY school (Look for cancer). LOTS of jobs, you can apply for different ones if you find you don’t like the one you chose. Takes a few years to change jobs, but persistance is the key. NEVER take “NO” for an answer. Like other person said. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Talk to someone who is IN…the military first. “IN” the job you are looking at in the BRANCH of service you are looking at. ALL are different. Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines…..for me?….duty assignments and duty stations. JOBS you do…and where you LIVE when you are doing your job. Airforce and Navy have the “SWEETEST” duty locations!!!!!….by FAR!….Navy by the water…Airforce?…just have the cream of the crop locations. Airforce military personnel get treated better. “WE” call them civilians in uniform. ;-) But then again, I say, I was ARMY for close to 15 years. I love/loved the ARMY. HOO-AHH!……wish you the best of luck in all your choices.

Another thing…medical field?….hard to get promoted in “most’ jobs (MOS’s). ARMY like a pyramid. More people in INFANTRY for example, people get promoted left and right. Young guys promoted to E-5, E-6, E-7 in few years. If Medical job?….it takes ALOT longer. NOT AS MANY people in medical field. NOt as many places to move up due to people staying in their jobs. SOrry to say?…we lose more people in the “INFANTRY” than in the Medical field. Plain math. Lose people?…then that clears a spot for the next person to move up. Promotion points are so, so, so much lower in the INFANTRY than in the Medical MOS’s. An Infantry soldier can get promoted to next grade with as low as 400 points. Maximum points are 900. Medical MOS’s?….I sat at 898 for a very long time, maxed out on just about everything. No promotion. Had to wait for points to drop one, two, five points to get picked up for next higher rank.
Depends on what you are looking for when you join. A career?…promotion?…a job?….benefits?….excitement?…..ability to step out after enlistment and step right into same job on “outside” (civilian world)…pick carefully. If you join Infantry?….what kind of job are you going to do when your enlistment/retirement is up? Does civilian world have jobs for “INFANTRY” guys?….yes…security guards…etc….choose wisely.

Just want to say point only go to 800 max for any MOS just wanted to put that out there so i dont know how you got 898 but good job lol

I do believe all the ideas you have offered on your post. They’re very convincing and can certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are very brief for newbies. Could you please prolong them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.

Useful information. Lucky me I found your web site accidentally, and I am shocked why this coincidence didn’t happened earlier! I bookmarked it.
