Teens are often roped into joining the military at the thought of shooting things, guns and explosions. While these aspects of military recruitment do exist, it is not normally on the level that high school teens seem to think. Here are 5 of the more over exaggerated claims that are made regarding joining the Marines Corps.1 – Many teens join the Marines because they are under the impression that their school will be completely paid for, when this is not always the case.
2 – Many teens join the Marines because they are under the impression that joining up is easier than simply trying to find a job.
3 – Many teens join the Marines because they are under the impression that they will automatically receive enlistment bonuses no matter what.
4 – Many teens join the Marines because they are under the impression that they can have any post or job that they want while enlisted.
5 – Many teens join the Marines because they are under the impression that they can travel all over the world with their company for free.

Why are twelve, thirteen, and fourteen year olds making this decision right now? That’s weird. Explore other options don’t be so narrow minded. Btw I am a 19 year old enlisted recruit about to go out to boot camp soon so I mean just think about it. But college is completely free in the Marine Corps. Only books are not paid for. The number one reason people should want to join the Marines is because it represents The U.S.A.’s premier fighting force, also, it is the only branch that truly has deep brotherhood. Marines are family, not co-workers like the other branches. Just be ready for hell at boot camp it seriously is no joke. Don’t watch Jarhead or Blackhawk Down and make that decision. Really figure out what job you would be interested in and use the Marine Corps to your advantage. Don’t just go to a recruiter and say “SIGN ME UP AND GIVE ME A GUN” because you are all smarter than that. Study, get a great score on the ASVAB, and get a good job that you like. Trust me, my 92 allows me to get almost any job I want. USMC is the way to go. |

Former SSgt. here..Formerly NCOIC of Processing AFEE’s Columbus Ohio, 1972…I have heard the talk of a large number of recruits and Recruiters and often find there is a different language being spoken by both that is hard to understand by both..Let me try and give a glimspe through the fog of the unknown…First of all, you have to successfully graduate Boot Camp..Next, once assigned your Primary Military Occupational Speciality or what we used to call an MOS you have to successfully pass your MOS School…Once you have successfully completed those challenges is where your Marine Corps Career begins..It is up to you to be successful, the Marine Corps will provide everything you need to reach that goal..Now, not everyone is cut out, or able, or capable, or physically capable, of meeting those intial goals, that is just the way it is. Same as Civilian life not everyone is cut out to be a Doctor or a Plumber but many try….But the Marine Corps may give you a chance to be successful in another area depending on your attitude and whether you tried to just skate through or worked very hard..If you worked very hard, then you may have nothing to regret…Next comes the real part of being a “Team Member” when you reach your first assignement once you passed your MOS School. Never think you can now slack off and think you have learned everything you have just learned the Basics,,that is why it is called “Basic Training”..Listen carefully to your Senior NCO’s and always work to the highest of your abilities and never stop learning and you will be successful..I had a Placard on my Desk which read “I have never heard of a dumb question!” If you are ever unsure of anything or not clear on an order or what is expected of you…Ask! Yes in some quarters this can mean a dressing down, but you will always remember what you are told after a dressing down, and that is the goal to help you remember and keep it in your brain…That is the advice I received from my Family… I come from a family of 9 successful Marines..My Father’s Father, My Father,, his Brothers, my three brothers, a combined total of 281 years of Service…Semper Fi |

I am 17 years old and I do not plan on joining the Marines. I plan on joining the Army. Although some of you may not think that these are valid reasons for joining the Military, these are some of the reasons why people end up joining. Although you may not like the above statements, they are true in some cases. Having said that, none of these are why I plan on enlisting. I plan on enlisting because I cannot see myself doing anything other than joining the Army. I’ve always wanted to. |

I’m Not Going To Lie Or Lie To Myself. These Reasons To Me Make More Than Perfect Since. Not Only To Join The Marines But The Military As A Whole. I’m 17 Years Old. I Am Young But A Very Old Soul. I Joined The Marines After Narrowing Down My Options. There Are Somethings The Recruiter Forgets To Mention. You Just Have To Be Semi Aware And Ask Questions. Its A Scary Thought To Alter Your Life Especially After High School. Not Everyone Has The Same Options. Some People Like My Self Have SHITTY Life Os. College Selling Drugs. Or Minimum Wage. Its Hard. those are good reasons on why a teen would want to join the Military. BUT they also know that it is not going to be a piece of cake, and even through many teens do think that. its better for the Marines to accept them; they are going to serve the country anyway and maybe there perspectives will change. |

I am a 12 year old girl who has had the desire to be a marine since i was 9. I want to be a marine to serve my country, learn respect, and above all others things protect people. All that stuf about just wanting the guns, its not true. I dont care who tells me i cant be a marine, cuz i just wont listen. |

I’m 18 years old I’m joining the Marines because they are the most prestige branch. For 4 years the thought has walkways been in the back of my mind. For most of my senior year I planned to go to college. Until I went to talk to a recruiter because I was bored on spring break. A “quick talk” as the recruiter put it turned in to a 3 hour conversation. Ever since then I have not been able to see my self going to college or the work force. My life will be the service and I can not wait to sign those papers and then get to step off the bus in Parris Island to begin what will make me the man I will be for the rest of my life. |

Its your life. I’m 16 too and I want to join that Marines for 8 years now is because of the career, the history and also to serve the United States of America. I’m from Ireland and I have no connections over in the US. Your father doesn’t want his little girl joining because he doesn’t want to loose you. Its the same with my mother. My mam thinks its because I play too much video games ect. If I can’t serve the U.S of A. I’m joining the Irish Special Force but if I am joint the Marine Corps the position that I want to be is infantry. If you sure you want to enlist please make sure of the sacrafises your making to you home, you country and also to the Corps. |
