3 Truths You Should Know Before Joining the Military

3 Truths You Should Know Before Joining the Military1. If you’re not in great physical shape, you’ll do yourself a favor by getting in great shape before you start basic training. Basic training/boot camp is probably the physically and mentally hardest thing you’ll ever do. The more you prepare, the easier it will be. Of course, even if you’re in top condition it won’t be easy. But you can make it less difficult on yourself by training hard before you join the military.

2. Military jobs are fantastic and can lead to great careers. But just because you join the Air Force wanting to train as a pilot, doesn’t mean you’ll end up actually start pilot training the first week you’re there. There’s a hierarchy in military jobs, and a chain of seniority. You may have to wait your turn to get the military jobs you want. If you’re needed somewhere, that’s where you’ll be assigned no matter what you personally want.

3. You can be put in harm’s way. That’s what you train for in the military. You go on what’s called peacekeeping missions, but you can go to war zones, too. If you feel this risk is worth the benefits, then joining the military is perfect for you.

I’ve been through basic and I had a blast. I may be the only one to have fun in basic but it was great. I encourage others to do the same.
