Iraqi and Coalition soldiers conducted a series of search and cordon raids recently in the Jama Taha area of Iraq.  Soldiers from Company D, First Battalion, and 15th Infantry Regiment worked closely with Iraqi Police to search houses for explosives or weapons caches.

Checkpoints were set up around the village of Jama Taha.  “We were here before and we know this area,” said First Lieutenant Erik Miller.  Miller is the 2nd Platoon Company D leader. “We made sure the local people knew why we were here, and to set up checkpoints,” said Miller.

No weapons or caches were discovered in the house-to-house type search.

“All the local people worked with us very well, and cooperated when we came to search,” said Specialist Aaron Cardinal.  Cardinal is a Tanker Soldier with 2nd Platoon. “We said take us to your household weapons, and in each case they did,” said Cardinal. “We were very pleased and surprised at how friendly everyone treated us.”

Troops from Company D erected Hesco barriers along four of the routes that come into the village.  The local Concerned Citizen local groups (CLC) will take and use these barriers to improve the security in the village and about town.

“Things are good, my men enjoy the food patrol and dismounted patrols,” said Lieutenant Miller.  “They like speaking to the local people and talking to the kids,” said Miller.  Lieutenant Miller and his soldiers have been assigned to the Area in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom since March of 2007.
