What Makes the US Military An Attractive Option?

When it comes to choosing between a military and private sector job, the perceptions concerning the former, and the harsh realities of today facing the latter are playing a major role in influencing the final choices of people in the market for jobs.   Although far from the truth, military jobs are perceived by some as few and far between, fraught with risks, low paying, and limited in scope for advancement. On the other hand, what cannot be denied, are the increasing incidences of company closures, pay cuts, layoffs, job instability, and unemployment in the private sector.   There are several factors that make US military jobs far more attractive propositions than private sector jobs today. Here’s why.   The breadth of opportunity   While job opportunities in the civilian private sector have shrunk significantly over the past few years, the number of military jobs has remained static, if not increased. And there’s one BIG reason for this. With its six major branches, the US Military offers an unlimited number of full and part-time jobs, as well as continuous enlistment opportunities for new recruits.   The benefit of stability   Unlike the job insecurities faced by people in the civilian private sector, military jobs of all disciplines are far more stable and secure.   The power of good paychecks   If private sector paychecks are recession-prone, military paychecks are recession-proof. And contrary to perception, the US Military offers extremely attractive salary packages and perks, and dependent on pay grades/service requirements, military personnel are paid twice monthly. What’s more, food, housing and healthcare expenses are taken care of, something most private sector companies do not offer.   If you’re young, smart and physically fit, or your private sector job is on shaky legs, consider a job in the US Military … it will be one bold and intelligent move to make.
