Sometimes it’s easier to work together than apart. Medics from the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team worked with their Iraqi Police Counterparts to treat patients in Tameem on January 5th. The joint operation went well, and many people were treated.
“The skill and ability of the Iraq Medics continue to improve, they are impressive,†said Major Anthony Carroll. Major Carroll is team leader for the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion, attached to the Combat Team. “They have taken the lead and helped our doctors with the effort here focus on the critical care patients,†said Major Carroll.
Iraq Medics from the First National Police Division, 3rd Brigade screened patients, and troops with their unit provided security for the medical event.
The medical joint operation was almost too successful, as over forty percent more patients arrived than were held at the site previously. “We find it very rewarding and gratifying to be able to serve the people of Iraq, as well as serve our country,†said Sergeant Alfonso Carmona. Sergeant Carmona is a team leader and sergeant with the 3/1 Cavalry Regiment. “We are able to show our concern but also help out with toys, medicine and candy donated by the American People,†said Sergeant Carmona.
Tameem was used in the past to stage weapons and explosives into Baghdad, by enemy insurgent forces. With all the positive changes, Tameem villagers have come forward and helped Iraqi and Coalition security forces win the battle against insurgency by giving information and assisting the soldiers. “We are making it difficult for the lies of the insurgents about Americans to be believed because we are helping them repeatedly,†said Carmona.
