Members of the Emergency Narhwan response team, and police officers from Al-Ma’amil, and also Narhwan officers worked with U.S. Forces to search for weapons and explosive caches.
59th Military Police Company, along with Scouts from Troop B, 3rd Squadron, First Calvary worked diligently in the operation along with Iraqi Forces.
Insurgents that have been in the area have routed more than fifteen hundred citizens from their homes. “Everyone is anxious to return to their own homes, to get back to their lives,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mark Sullivan. Sullivan is Commander of the 1-10 Field Artillery Regiment.
“About a thousand people have been pushed out of Khazaliyah, and maybe five hundred more displaced from Sha Buu’t,” said Colonel Sullivan. “We are helping them return to their homes but it is a definite and deliberate process.” Stated Sullivan.
One of the leaders of the Concerned Local Citizen Groups from Khazaliyah was on the scene to help and to assist in receiving building supplies. Sheik Hussein, leader of the CLC group accepted supplies designated to help rebuild homes in the two areas.
“We went out today to set things up and get rid of any caches, now the CLC groups can establish their checkpoints with no problems,” said First Lieutenant Darrell Jones. “These CLC groups can hold and occupy these areas successfully when we are done sweeping them,” said Lieutenant Jones.
