Security Re Established In Al Jabour Region
Operating Base Kalsu
Clear skies was on the menu for soldiers who conducted Operation Mauser on January 6th.  This was an operation designed to re familiarize soldiers near Patrol Base Hawkes with the region.
Just last month the area where the exercise was completed had enemy activity and contact.
Moving through the area cautiously, soldiers came under fire from a house. The sound of AK-47 weapons fire forced the troops to seek cover. They located their adversaries about two hundred meters and exchanged fire.
Grenades were fired, and then high explosive 120-millimeter rounds were called in and delivered. As soldiers moved in, they discovered and disarmed two IED explosive devises. Further fire was not present, and evidently the insurgents fled. “We had them on the run but they got away,†said Specialist Carlos Lopez. Lopez is an infantryman with Company B.
“To us its similar to any other day, we are used to being shot at,†said Spc Lopez. Since the 1-30th Infantry Regiment has been assigned to the Arab Jabour area, the slow steady progress toward arresting or killing insurgents has been well received.
Soldiers in Company B have worked hard to push back the tide of insurgents. In addition to providing security for the area, Company B troops have been working the last several months to assist local Iraqi Citizens. Using financial micro grants, and working to help with infrastructure such as electricity, water and other services, the soldiers have began to make progress in helping the local Iraqi Citizens reclaim their neighborhoods.
