Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9) is the highest rank you can obtain in the United States Coast Guard. This is accomplished as you receive higher and higher levels of education in your chosen field.
Enlisted Guardians continue to receive higher-level training in their chosen field leading to more responsibility, greater pay and a potentially higher ranking. The highest rank an enlisted member can attain is Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9).
Those who have obtained at least an (E-5) ranking and 30 college credits have the option to try out for the Officer Candidate School. Even if you meet the requirements, you will have to beat out other civilians and Guardians looking to enroll in the OCS school.
