Saddam Hussein Lied Regarding Weapons

Saddam Hussein Lied Regarding WeaponsDeceased Dictator Allowed World To Believe Lies To Deter Iran
New York

In a recent interview, FBI special Agent George Piro related that Saddam Hussein allowed the world to think he had nuclear, biological and chemical weapons ready to be used.  This was done to prevent Iran from thinking that he was weak.

Saddam believed that Iran would try and invade him, and that if he allowed the world to think he was a danger, that at worst the United States would reinvade with an air attack but that Saddam could remain in power.

Meeting with Saddam following his capture, George Piro was able to question the former Iraq leader for hours, and found out several things that explained what happened. “Saddam said that he read President Bush and his intentions wrong,” said Piro.  “Saddam believed that we might invade, but that it would be like before, not a large scale ground invasion,” stated Piro.

The invasion the first time in 1998 was a four-day aerial attack and then the country, with severe limits, was handed back to Saddam Hussein. “Because he was able to survive before he believed that the risks of another attack like the one in 1998 would be acceptable.” Said Piro.

Agent George Piro is an Arabic speaking Lebanese American, and has the chance to question Saddam Hussein following his capture by American Troops in December of 2003.  Saddam was found cowering and hiding deep underneath the ground north of the City of Baghdad, over nine months after the United States invaded and started to restore Iraq in 2003.

“Saddam was a proud and foolish man, he wanted to make the world think, and especially Iraq, that he was still strong, and dangerous,” said Piro.  “He believed that we would not invade on the ground, that we were not willing to commit and count the cost that a large invasion on the ground would entail,” said Agent Piro.
