imageretriever-1The Officer Corps of the United States Army offers different ways in which you can earn your commission. Following are different Army Officer Programs and their Descriptions:

Officer Candidate School (OCS) – This school is restricted to those soldiers who have a secret security clearance, pass a physical exam, score a minimum of 110 on the General Technical Aptitude Test, have the ability to obtain a bachelor’s degree within a year, and pass the SAT or ACT standards. Educational, leadership and physical training in the OCS is accomplished over a period of 14 weeks.

Warrant Officer – To qualify for training as a Warrant Officer, a soldier must obtain a secret security clearance, score at least a 110 on the GT and pass a physical fitness test. Only 3 percent of soldiers become Warrant Officers. Warrant officers will work in a specialized area throughout their career. Training includes a 6 week program at the Warrant Officer Candidate School located at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) – This is a program for students attending college who are under 23 years of age at the time of enrollment. The program includes paying for tuition while obtaining a commission as an officer. Completing Military Science courses as well as training during academic breaks gets you ready for a career as an officer. Qualifications include having no criminal record, a high school diploma or GED, score a 1000 on the SAT or a 45 on the ACT, and you must be accepted to the college.

West Point Academy – This is an educational atmosphere for those with a high moral character who are under 23 years old. Soldiers looking to enroll must have an endorsement from their commander. You will also need to have a high school education or a GED as well as a high score on the SAT or the ACT. The program is only open to 2000 soldier per year.

Your best bet is to submit a packet for Officer Candidate School (unless you are young enough to go to West Point, and willing to spend four years there). Read the Army regulations on how to apply for OCS. Get any required tests completed before you ship to Basic Training, and your task of applying will be easier.
