Coalition Troops Arrest Seven Insurgent Suspects
At nearly the same time there were two deadly suicide attacks in different Baghdad markets on Friday. Dozens of innocent civilians and villagers were killed and others injured in the brutal enemy Al-Qaeda attack.
“We are angry and we share the outrage and indignation of the Iraqi people,†said the Multinational Force Iraqi Officials in a news release. “We condemn the barbaric murder of these innocents, and we will find and eliminate the enemy responsible for these brutal acts of violence,†said officials. “Families, innocent shoppers were targeted and murdered for no reason,†said Multinational Force officials.
“We stand prepared and at the ready to provide support and services to Iraqi authorities to find who perpetrated this attack, and bring these criminals to justice,†said officials. MNF Division officials in Baghdad are providing humanitarian assistance and medical supplies to help out authorities dealing with the tragedy.
Operations throughout Baghdad were stepped up and security tightened. There were seven suspected insurgents arrested and held for questioning by the Iraqi National Army, and overall patrols in the entire Baghdad region were increased and intensified.
As a result of U.S. and Coalition patrols, there was a suspected Al-Qaeda terrorist judge that was discovered and arrested. He is believed to be one involved in a kidnapping incident that occurred in mid January 2008. He was arrested along with three other suspected insurgents in the Mosul area.
“These ongoing patrols and operations show our further continued progress in the campaign to keep Al-Qaeda on the run,†said Major Winfield Danielson. Army Major Danielson is spokesman for MNF Forces, Iraq. “As we continue to drive and disrupt insurgents from their strongholds, they shift to different or new locations. We will continue to pursue, aggressively following, capturing, and attacking. We will rout their networks, and kill or capture their members,†said Major Danielson.
