Great Location And Safety Mark New Shopping Location
Baghdad, Iraq
Shopping at any shopping center in the United States is marked by several standards. Safe parking, clean facilities, wholesome produce, secure places to shop and relax. In the nation of Iraq, a shopper can literally in some places put their life at risk simply in the act of buying groceries, and shopkeepers have to watch produce rot because they do not have access to refrigeration.
Well in Baghdad much of that appears to be changing. There is a new marketplace in the process of completion that will solve many of these issues. The new Baghdad Marketplace will be close to bus lines for people wishing to visit it by getting on a bus. It is right next to a highway, and has a large number of residential homes around it. It was first constructed in 2004, but has stood unopened due to violence and strains around security.
Working closely with Iraqi government officials, the troops of 2-69th Armor Battalion, 3rd Infantry has been working to improve and reopen the Baghdad Marketplace. It is also known as “9 Nissan,†and will be comparable with many United States small shopping centers in what it will eventually offer. As the recent security situation has been improving greatly, the U.S. Coalition forces have began to work on fixing the market area up. Local residents have been selling food and meet in the streets nearby, so the time for reopening the Baghdad Marketplace is ripe.
Working to help Iraqi’s take a stake in their future, and reconstructing and opening the New Baghdad marketplace show the three prong approach of the U.S. Iraqi Strategy: Political Stability, Economic Stability, and Security.
