Sabbah Nissan CLC Groups Surrenders Found Explosives
Forward Operating Base Hammer, Iraq
Soldiers are being freed up to work on reconstruction more and more due to the increased security of the entire Baghdad Region. Part of this is because there is a radical increase of assistance from Iraqi citizens, CLC groups, and the general population. Tips are being received, acted upon, and large amounts of explosives and weapons are being discovered.
One such discovery was by the Sabbah Nissan Concerned Local Citizens group. The CLC members there led troops from A Battery, 1st Battalion, and 10th Field Artillery to a cache of extremist weapons last week. The Weapons and explosive cache was located near the headquarters of 10th Field Artillery.
Soldiers from the EOD 789th Ordnance Company were immediately called to take charge of the weapons. Since November 2007 the region CLC’s have worked hard to help discover and turn over various amounts of munitions to Coalition forces. This has been a fantastic assist to the troops operating from Forward Operating Base Hammer.
More and more there has been opportunities for the Soldiers from Battery A to help out with other things. They have worked effectively to provide school supplies, food, water and other supplies to villagers. It has been a wonderful change from the duties of fighting the war.
“These citizens from the Concerned Local Citizens groups know their own neighborhoods, and they are working hard to help us get rid of extremists, explosives and IED’s,” said Captain Chas Cannon. Captain Cannon is the Commander of Battery A.
