There’s no pun intended. Everyone knows that good nutrition leads to good health. Nutritionists must routinely innovate ways to maintain the health of hundreds of thousands of sailors and soldiers, man of whom are deployed is some of the most remote regions of the world. They must also communicate those initiatives those responsible for providing those nutrients. If nutrition and good health are your passion, then the military could use you.

What Does a Nutritionist Do?

Navy nutritionists are all stationed in hospitals, clinics and remote medical facilities throughout the United States and all over the world, providing inpatient and outpatient medical nutrition therapy to soldiers, sailors and in humanitarian efforts for less fortunate countries. Nutrition counseling and education and food service management make up the majority of those responsibilities. It is these people that tackle general nutrition education and wellness programs aimed at all service members and their dependents. They also ensure that hospitalized patients in the field and on ships or in submarines receive the nutrition they need to become healthy again.

Nutritionists in the military enjoy considerable independence when it comes to developing nutrition education materials that best meets the needs of their charges over their civilian counterparts. Navy and National Guard nutritionists are frequently placed in charge of food service operations in order to ensure that proper nutritional guidelines are being met.
