What are the Responsibilities of a Public Affairs Officer?
The number one responsibility of a Public Affairs Officer is to effectively delivery information regarding the Navy and National Guard to the public. You will work closely with all aspects of the media including television, magazines, newspapers, and in press conferences, to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of any information relevant to the public.
As a Public Affairs Officer you will be responsible for writing and delivering press releases to multiple media channels, briefing Naval personnel before appearing before the media and the general public, schedule and conduct interviews and press conferences, as well as direct the layout and content for print media such as newspapers, magazines and Internet content.
What Training is Required?
Public Affairs Officers are Navy officers and as such, will attend a rigorous 12-week officer training program designed to prepare candidates for this position academically. The program also instills core military values as well as physical fitness.
