Camp Bucca Offers Safety And CalmDetainees Treated Well At Iraqi Detention Facility Many people do not realize that there are successful Iraqi detention facilities within Iraq.  Coalition and Iraqi soldiers, who provide compassionate yet security minded care to the detainees and their families, tend these facilities. Anyone that is found to be a potential risk or a security threat against other Iraqi’s, against the Iraqi Government, or against Coalition or Iraqi Army forces is housed in these types of detainment facilities.  The facility located at Camp Bucca itself houses a large part of the detainees in the region. There are more than 1700 visitors from family members to friends and acquaintances of detainees each week.  These visitors are carefully screened, but allowed to visit provided it is deemed safe for both the detainees, and safe for the visitors. The personnel who work at the Theater Internment Facility located inside Camp Bucca work hard to maintain their professional demeanor, as well as to provide safe and humane care.  Unlike other facilities, the troops who guard TIF Camp Bucca are made up of a truly mixed force, Sailors, Airmen, and members of Iraqi Police and Army Units comprise the security force at TIF. Members of the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Army, and Coast Guard all make up the force that guards the facility.  The United States Army is in charge of the facility, but they assign personnel from each of the sister services to different duties in the joint force operation. “This is a very intense, joint forces operation and environment,” said Senior Master Sergeant Steven Diamond.  “We enjoy the best of practices from both Navy, Army and other sister services because it’s all about being on the same team,” said Diamond.
