Adwaniyah Village Turns Around

Adwaniyah Village Turns AroundCitizens And Leaders Marvel At Massive Changes

There is a lot of positive news coming out of Iraq. Previously the Adwaniyah community was one of the worst places in Iraq for insurgency and terrorist operations.  Life in the community was bleak, and the citizens were under oppression and fear created by the terrorists.  But gradually the citizens and residents began to step forward, and stand up against the insurgents and members of Al Qaeda.

Slowly, the community of Adwaniyah began to reclaim itself.  Former Iraqi Army officers that live in the community began to organize local citizens, and started two local chapters of “Sons Of Iraq,” groups in the Adwaniyah area.  Despite a renewed effort and rounds of attacks in November 2006, the community began to take shape again.

The Sons of Iraq joined with other local groups to fight with United States and Coalition soldiers in mid November, and triumphed against Al Qaeda.  Since that time life in the Adwaniyah village and surrounding countryside has been steadily improving.

“The local citizens and leaders have all been vital in our successful efforts in Adwaniyah and the region,” said Captain Douglas Hoyt.  Hoyt is the Commander of Troop B, 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment. “The willingness and zeal that these local patriots possess have really helped make all the difference,” said Captain Hoyt.

In December a headquarters for the Sons Of Iraq volunteer citizen group was set up, and since then peace and security has been steadily getting better and better. In January the community began to pass the word that things were much improved, and residents that had previously fled the area began to return.  Businesses have begun to re open, and things continue to get better.
