Al Kut Area Received Vocational FacilityWassit Province Gets New Training Project Al Kut Finding a reliable repairman in the province of Wassit has been a challenge, but it is going to get very much easier. There is a new facility under construction for training repairman in electrical, air conditioning, automotive, and other vocational trades. The Al Kut technical Vocational school is about to undergo renovation and expansion, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers is heading the project.  The new facilities will help students develop trade skills to obtain employment.  These skills will also help contribute to the local economy and contribute to Iraqi redevelopment. The Emergency Response Program of the Army Corps of Engineers is funding the project. It is a project costing $788,852 dollars that is slated to support the goals for the Wassit province.  “It is very important for the Al Kut government and for the region overall,” said Major Clay Morgan.  Morgan is the resident engineer for the Gulf South Region of the Army Corps of Engineers. There are more then 100 students currently attending the vocational facility, and with the upgrade and renovation there will be spaces for at least 175 students and two additional workshops. Work on the new facility began in October 2007, and includes two pads for backup generators, new fuel tanks, new workshops, and a new storage building.  The restrooms for both staff and students will be updated and expanded, and the water and sewer system for the facility will be upgraded at the same time.
