Coalition Troops And Iraqi Leaders Meet In Al Anbar
Sheikhs and leaders from several Anbari tribes gathered in a beautiful compound in the capital of the Al Anbar province. Generals from the Iraqi Army, leaders from the Iraqi National Police, political and other community leaders all met together with coalition officials to talk about the transition of areas from coalition to Iraqi control.
The meetings was held with the head of the awakening council, or Sahwah Al-Iraq. The control of urban areas has become the increasingly normal duties of the Iraqi Police, passing from the control and responsibility of Coalition Soldiers.
Security forces from the Iraqi councils are being pushed as a solution to help improve peace and increase stability in the entire region, as well as elsewhere in Iraq. The SAI security force system was founded in Al- Anbar province.
Men from the local citizen population join the SAI awakening councils to help force out the insurgency, and to get rid of terrorists in their own communities. The awaking councils use their knowledge and ability as residents to take up arms and support the National Police and the Iraqi Army. These brave citizen council members provide support and intelligence, and have led directly to thousands of pound of explosives being discovered and destroyed over the last several months.
The leader of the SAI council in Al Anbar believes it is time for more official recognition of the assistance that the SAI council members give the Army and National Police. It was agreed that the SAI council would not be security providers, that the council would become a political organization instead to help the people get their concerns known.
The Iraqi Police and Iraqi National Army will take over all security responsibilities as these pass out of coalition hands. No longer will members of the SAI take over responsibility in the area of security, but instead the security will be with the National Police and Iraqi Army.
