Route Michigan Repaired By U.S. SoldiersIraqi Road Re-opened Camp Ramadi, Iraq- Nearly three years ago amidst all of the savagery and violence in the city of Ramadi, the roadway referred to as Route Michigan was closed. It has remained closed for the three years since, and been a thorn in the side of both coalition and Iraq forces in the area because of its closure. It had been previously a main route in and out of Ramadi, but due to the repeated violence it had been closed. Now due to Coalition Troop efforts, it has been rebuilt. “The opening of this highway again is a very important day. It is a very good thing that the Route Michigan is open again, traffic can now resume and it’s a glorious day for all Iraqi citizens,” said Latif Obaid Ayadah. Ayadah is the Mayor for Ramadi, and was present during the ribbon cutting ceremony that reopened Route Michigan. Route Michigan runs to the Syrian Border, and passes through Fallujah and Ramadi, and winds its way throughout the entire Anbar province. It is a necessary and important supply route for traveling, and for consumer goods, and its reopening is a huge positive step for Iraqi rebuilding. Crews of American soldiers have worked to rebuild the Iraqi Road, which has been a sore point because of its closure. Gone are the concertina wires and cement barriers, which have been replaced with newly constructed tiled medians and streetlights on the main road of the city. “Our revitalized and re born Iraqi National police will protect our highway, Route Michigan security will be handled completely by Iraqi Police officers,” said Mayor Ayadah. “It has been closed because of terrorist activity, but now it is safe and will be watched by our brave police,” said the Mayor.
