Marine Corps Artillery Radar OperatorServing in the Marine Corps as a Artillery Field Radar Operator is a rewarding job. You are able to help protect an area against attack, and to give information assisting in the targeting of weapons directed at the enemy. An enlisted Marine serving as a Field Radar Operator is trained in how to perform all the different duties involved in orientation, installation, and operation of various radar and field Artillery equipment. A Radar Operator helps install and operate field telephones, lay communications network cable and wire, prepares different types of Radar equipment, performs regular and special preventative maintenance, and helps to camouflage and hide the equipment in the field. Qualifications for Artillery Field Radar Operator include: Possess a GT portion ASVAB score of 105 or higher, the Successful completion of the Firefinder Field Artillery Radar Course, and be a U.S. Citizen. When working in the Artillery Field Radar Operator job billet includes a lot of different skill sets. The three major ones are : Field Artillery Operations, Firing Battery, and Field Artillery liaison/Observation. These are the main functional areas of Artillery Radar Operator duties that a candidate has to master. The successful candidate will learn various skills in maintaining and operating artillery equipment, math skills in communicating, computing and executing fire commands, basic technical abilities, and other technical and administrative skills needed to be successful as a Artillery Radar Operator. Work in the Field Artillery Radar specialty includes -Moving, emplacing, loading, protecting and maintaining field artillery weapons systems. -Maintaining equipment vital to Field Artillery Radar operations. -Interpreting meteorological data. -Evaluating gun emplacements, and taking target survey information. -Evaluating Weapons System Performance. -Communicating and initiating Weapons Fire orders to the firing battery. Work and training as a field artillery observation and liaison person includes: -Analyzing and checking combat plans and communicating them. -Coordinating the field artillery with Naval Gun batteries in joint exercises. After Basic training, formal advance school and field skills type training is provided to Marines entering this job billet. Artillery is the supporting primary arm for infantry and Marine Armor units, and as such the majority of the billets are in ground FMF organizations. After formal technical school, training continues with on the job and in the field training. Artillery Radar Operators operate under close supervision and in a structured environment. Senior enlisted Radar Operator personnel are responsible for supervising and training junior enlisted Radar operator personnel.
