Navy Enlisted Submarine CareersThe Submarine Service of the United States has been a proud service, with a long history of service to the nation. In issues of safeguarding national security, the United States Submarine Force uses intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, stealth and the use of overwhelming offensive capabilities. If you have the discipline strength and ambition to serve your country, and desire to be a part of an elite group, then you may be well suited to become part of the Submarine Service of the United States.

Submarine enlisted personnel operate, manage and utilize the U.S. Navy fleet of guided missile, ballistic, and attack submarines. These subs work together in their individual missions to patrol and monitor the world’s oceans, keeping tabs on enemy forces, and intercepting electronic communications.

The Submarines are the single most important deterrent that the United States has in its nuclear arsenal. They run quietly, silently, and undetectable and can bring huge amounts of ordnance to bear off the shores of any continent without warning. As an enlisted crewman on a United States Submarine you will be a member of a select and elite unit, a member of a close-knit crew that will go to sea for six months at a time. Being a member of a Submariner crew you will be responsible to assist in keeping the submarine on task and on mission, including keeping it at maximum readiness. You will work on systems from nuclear propulsion to fire control, from atmospheric control to supply and maintenance. You are part of a multi million-dollar vessel, and you will have a life of intense excitement and duty serving as a submarine officer.

Submarine crews are responsible for antisubmarine warfare, strategic deterrence, and a number of other missions and combat duties. They land upon command Special Weapons and Warfare forces, such as Navy Seals, and the missions of submarines are almost always highly classified. The standard for submarine crewmembers is very high, and most crewmembers are required to have a security clearance of Secret or greater. Crewmembers are routinely required to work on cruise missile systems, sonar, the ships nuclear reactor, ships torpedoes, ballistic missiles and a number of other systems that in themselves are rated as Top Secret.

Serving as a Submarine crewmember is a challenging, highly competitive career field. You will have opportunities to deal with state of the art technology and skills, as well as qualifying for a special rate of pay because of the conditions and unique situation of service.
