3rd BCT Soldiers Deliver Water To NarhwanCoalition Soldiers Work With Iraqi National Army In a joint operation with the Iraqi National Army over 240 cases of drinking water were delivered to the Sons of Iraq Headquarters in the village of Narhwan. Narhwan is a small village located east of Baghdad, and has a large unit of the civilian group Sons Of Iraq located there. This was done to further strengthen the ties of the community and the Sons of Iraq group. The SOI group has been very instrumental in the community, turning over several groups of weapons to Coalition forces for eventual destruction and they are seen as one of the linchpins of the rebuilding effort. The SOI is also seen by the civilians as one of their own, a group made up entirely of civilians drawn directly from the community. By giving the water to the SOI group it helps encourage independence and gives a wider range of distribution than in previous trips to give out water. At times some of the local residents have been unable to attend the water handouts, and so they have missed the opportunity. Find the Military Career right for YOU ! Sergeant Walrod is squad leader for Troop B, 10th Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry, 3rd Squadron. “Because there has been such a severe shortage of water in the past, when we are able to deliver it the citizens really are appreciative,” said Sgt Walrod.
