Hawj Rajab Receives Troop Assistance

Hawj Rajab Receives Troop AssistanceVillage South Of Baghdad Begins To Come Back To Life

Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq-
One of the regions that have experienced the most severe fighting is in and around the Village of Hawj Rajab. But now that the area is slowly being returned to security and peace, the village is showing signs of life.

Joint efforts from Coalition Forces and Iraqi National Army troops are beginning to make a difference in Hawj Rajab. The Coalition Soldiers have formed a “Village of Hope” reconstruction team that is working hard to assist in various ways with the rebuilding and education needs of the citizens of Hawj Rajab.

Efforts have been focused on helping the economy in the area recover. The soldiers have a vocational school that is designed to teach construction basics to Hawj Rajab villagers. One recent push for students garnered 50 students in a single day, so the response to assistance has been very well received.

Soldiers from the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry, 4 BCT, 3rd Infantry assist in providing security in and around the new construction school, and at construction sites that the students work at. The new school is instructed by U.S. Air Force Airmen who have occupational ratings with experience in construction techniques.

“We are working as builders to teach students how to rebuild different buildings. Not only do students get to rebuild their community, but students are also paid to attend class, it’s a win win for us,” said Technical Sergeant Jacob Wilcock. Sgt Wilcock is a class instructor for the new School.
