Young Marine Puts Dream On HoldMixed Martial Arts Fighter Puts Career On Hold To Serve His Country Many of our Servicemembers put their personal goals on hold, and put all their efforts toward their enlistment when they choose to serve their country. One such example is the Young Marine Corps Lance Corporal from Old Bridge, New Jersey. Lance Corporal Sean Varriale is a radio operator that recently deployed to Iraq with his unit. He was in serious training in the field of Mixed Martial Arts, and hoped to someday turn professional and fight in the Ultimate Fighter competition. “My personal goal was to become good enough to turn professional, and then to fight in the Ultimate Fighter Competition,” said Cpl. Varriale. Varriale volunteered to be deployed to Iraq, so for now his days of fighting in the Martial arts arena are on hold. “I love the Marine Corps, I do not regret my choosing to go to Iraq at all,” said Corporal Varriale. “I am not training at home, but we are putting together a group here in Iraq to work out and train, and so not all of my efforts are lost,” said Varriale. Cpl Varriale was selected to augment to 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, and does not regret going to Iraq in any way. Varriale began to be involved with mixed martial arts at the age of five, and has trained hard for several years. He worked out at first with his father, and learned a lot from his Dad, about fighting and about life. “My Dad showed me that I should never fear anything, and to grab hold of life and never let anything get the upper hand on me,” said Varriale.
