Information Technology Navy SpecialistWorking as an Information Technology Specialist you will have one of the premier jobs in the entire Navy Fleet. With the current situation in the world and the need for Information security and national security, the position of trained Information technology specialist has become an ever increasingly important rating. Sailors and Airmen in the Navy who become Information Technology specialists are experts in their field, capable and intelligent, trained in a variety of skills necessary to perform in the Information technology field. Information technologists work to safeguard our nation, help protect our allies, and contribute to force readiness and strength by transmitting, analyzing, compiling and processing a vast array of complex and highly technological material.

Navy Airmen and Sailors who work in the Information Technology field work with communications and help provide links between stations on shore and vessels at sea. As a part of this Navy occupational specialty you may be called upon to:
-Coordinate and operate different technology systems including circuits, data links, and networks.
-Work with technical and sometimes highly classified material.
-Deal with corrective and recovery procedures to retrieve vital information.
-Work with data collection, distribution, manipulation, and other issues dealing with computers, satellites, and communications systems.
-Operate and maintain global Navy satellite communications and satellite assets.
-Perform troubleshooting and state of the art maintenance on Navy systems.

Working as an Information Technology Navy Enlisted Specialist is a job that requires a high amount of skill, training and responsibility. You will attend basic training as every Navy Airman and Sailor, and then you will attend a school for individual advance training. You will be taught concepts and theories for a variety of Navy systems. Some of the topics that you will study include: basic computer theory, computer basic programming, software and hardware computer repair, satellite communications theory, communications systems troubleshooting and repair, and basic information technology procedures. As you rise in rank you will be responsible for gradually increasing units of responsibility, as well as assisting in training of younger and more inexperienced sailors and airmen in the particulars of the IT field.

Civilian careers that this occupation gives you training for are numerous, including office manager; civilian IT systems network repair, computer systems troubleshooter, and computer repair technician. You will be attractive as an employee for a variety of civilian companies needing skilled and trained computer information technology people.
