One of the lesser-known jobs available in today’s Navy is work in the field of Podiatry. The Navy survives because of the work its Servicemembers do, and a lot of the roughest punishment that a Servicemember inflicts on their own body is the punishment their feet receive. The Navy podiatrist works to keep the readiness and mission response of the entire Fleet on time and on task, maintaining and supporting Navy personnel. A Navy podiatrist deals with issues dealing with the ankle, foot, and all lower leg and extremities issues.
As a Navy enlisted podiatry specialist, you will observe and assist Navy doctors and medical professionals in giving services to anyone requesting or requiring help in ankle and foot issues.
You will find your work is cutting edge, working to treat and help diagnose ailments of the ankle foot and lower leg. By helping address issues that cause pain and discomfort, and prevent use of the ankle and foot you will be assisting others that are the elite and tops in the field of podiatry.
You will be responsible for assisting with ankle, foot and related structure ailments. You will be part of an integrated treatment team issuing treatment services. These services can be very simple common sense treatment that people are given, to the far more invasive but sometimes necessary choice of surgery. You will help provide a range of treatment services from the very intense surgery to more conservative less invasive treatments. You will also work closely with amputees in both humanitarian and military settings, to help with their prosthesis and hemodynamic needs that are basic to a higher quality of life.

You will work to deal with and accept assignments from potentially any location that the Navy is based at, around the world. These locations can range from small Navy facilities, to larger Navy bases, branch medical facilities and clinics, even large Navy and Marine recruit facilities.
Part of the advantage to working in the Navy Enlisted Podiatrist specialty is that you can work in the field and gain experience. This experience can potentially lead to furthering your education and a possible later commission as a Navy officer and foot doctor.
