One of the duties that the Army has is to record the events that it participates in. While sometimes this means that there are fictional accounts, or film crews that have access and try to relate what has happened in an Army evolution or event, it also means reality steps in. The Combat Film Documentation specialist has the job to record and film different events and activity that the Army is involved in. This is both for a historic record and for training, as well as to a certain extent to share with the public what the Army is doing and what they are accomplishing. Documented records on Film are used to train and prepare soldiers for battle, and as a variety of different training aids. Documentation specialists use a variety of audio visual formats to record events, including video tape, motion picture photography, digital and electronic photography, still photography, and audio recording devices.
Army Film Documentation Specialists record a variety of news events, military operations, ceremonies, and various other issues that are important for the Army to document. The Documentation specialist has a range of tasks to perform, from filming and recording to editing, audio recording, and approving scripts for documentary film shoots. Combat Documentation specialist are responsible for operating, planning and supervising film based, electronic and digital, still photography, as well as audio and visual video tape equipment and devices. Some of the duties you may have as a Combat Documentation Specialist include:
-Creating visual products in support of combat operations.
-Preparing and creating captions for documented images.
-Operating media equipment and special effects equipment, including lighting, sound and cameras.
-Planning and putting into implementation special effects, scenery and graphics.
-Upkeep and maintenance of still, studio, film and motion cameras, darkrooms and equipment.
-Operating television and broadcast equipment and collecting and documenting events with it.
-Working with producers, writers and directors to document Army events.

After Boot camp training for a Combat Documentation specialist includes up to 27 weeks of schooling for Combat Documentation. You will learn skills in audio recording, motion picture and digital video recording, special effects and scripting, and how to use and operate public address equipment. If you enjoy people and enjoy using photographic equipment, or have an interest in film then this may be the specialty or job for you.
