MNF Iraq CIC Soldier Work Behind ScenesCommand Center Troops Ensure Safety And Force Protection

Soldiers that are on the front lines are very aware of their fellow troops working in the CIC centers to make sure they are safe. CIC Command troops work in closed quarters, under intense pressure to make sure that the intelligence and information that they receive is processed, routed and interpreted correctly, and made available to the Commanders and leaders in the field.

“We have to decide if a blip on radar is a threat or just a plain old bird,” said Private First Class Rusty Williams. Williams is a Soldier with the field Artillery data Tactical force of 4th Infantry, 14th field Artillery, 1st Battalion, Battery D.

The soldiers who work in the CIC operation rooms scattered across Iraq have undergone some of the most extensive training of any of our Coalition troops that are stationed in country in Iraq. The systems tell the CIC operators not only about threats, but information about the enemy, where an attack was launched from, as well as a lot of other data.

It is not a job for the weak hearted, or for those that do not handle stress well. “We can sometimes start to get complacent, it gets very slow, then suddenly everything breaks loose and turns upside down,” said Sergeant Michael Preston. Sgt. Preston is assigned to a National Guard CIC operations unit stationed at headquarters and headquarters battery, 138th Fires Brigade, 4th Infantry, located near Baghdad.
