160th Field Artillery Unit From Oklahoma Provides Necessary Aid
Camp Bucca- Take any typical midsize city anywhere, you have vital needs such as water, fuel, electric service, transportation, even sewer and trash services. Groups of people based in any location on earth rely on these types of services.
Now take a remote Coalition Camp located in the middle of the dessert in Southern Iraq, and you can imagine some of the challenges faced in providing these services.
About 30 individuals from the Oklahoma National Guard Army unit, from the 45th Infantry Combat Team, 160th field artillery, 1st battalion tackle these types of challenges in managing and overseeing services to keep Camp Bucca running smoothly.
The Guard unit works to provide security and management for a population of nearly 26,000 people, made up of airmen, soldiers, Marines, contractors, DoD civilians, and detainees. Camp Bucca is located in the middle of the desert in South Iraq, and all supplies commodities and needed materials have to be shipped in
“It is literally a mid sized city that we are responsible for,†said Lieutenant Colonel David Jordan. Colonel Jordan is the Rear Operations Center Commander at Camp Bucca, and responsible to insure that the day-to-day support operations at the camp function properly.

Many of the Guard Units soldiers assigned to the Camp work in the internment facility, named Theater Interment Facility. Nearly 20,000 detainees are housed there by order of the United Nations Security Council Resolution, but they are cared for, fed, and looked after by the members of the National Guard Unit.
