Continued Efforts Make Salman Pak And Arab Jabour Areas Safer
Camp Victory, Iraq- Coalition soldiers have been working diligently for the past several months implementing Operation Marne in the area near Arab Jabour and Salman Pak. In a series of continuing raids, a number of weapons caches and terror hideouts have been exposed.
The weapons have been seized, and the terrorist hideouts have either been turned over for civilian habitation, or in two cases, bombed and destroyed to eliminate their being used in the future for terrorist activity.
Iraq celebrated the five year anniversary of the U.S. led Coalition effort with continued progress toward overall safety and security. Increasingly the efforts to keep the nation and its people safe are being championed by Iraqi Security forces, and the Iraqi National Police. These efforts would have been unthinkable in recent years, and even as recently as six months ago the level of success on the part of Iraqi Forces would have been hard to believe.
The Coalition efforts in Operation Marne have met with increasing success and more so as time moves forward. The goal of Marne, and the offshoot Marne Rugged is to join with Iraqi Forces to control access and the approaches to Baghdad, Salman Pak, and Arab Jabour. Working in the area in and around the Tigris River Valley, the operations have been a success; with the resulting calm and peace a welcome respite from the war plagued former conditions in the area.
The Operation Marne Rugged will also be working toward the goal of setting up a new Patrol Base to observe and control different areas of the river, bends, peninsulas, and river crossings.
