Mosul Responds To Security Efforts

Mosul Responds To Security EffortsCoalition And Iraqi Troop Patrols Cause Revitalization Of City

Mosul, Iraq- Despite being the home of some of the heaviest fighting in the Iraqi Theater, Mosul has begun to respond to the efforts of everyone working for more security. There are more people on the streets, and the overall feeling is that things are much safer than they have been previously.

Soldiers from Coalition forces including the 8th Infantry, 1st Battalion that are assigned to patrol the streets of Mosul are feeling that things are overall working well and being successful. They are working with their Iraq counterparts to make sure that the streets are safe and the citizens are able to go about their lives.

“Every day we go out and talk to the people, at clinics, shops, and schools,” said Lieutenant Larry Gwinn, who is a regiment platoon leader. “We are beginning to get to know the people and they are starting to open up and share what their needs are,” said Gwinn.

Lieutenant Gwinn said that the local government has been active in helping create the increased sense of security and the overall progress. They have been working hard in recent weeks to hire more sanitation workers to deal with garbage issues, and there are other community improvements as well going forward.

“We have been fighting the enemy at a lot of different levels, now we are able to work toward rebuilding, and helping the community establish some stability,” said Lieutenant Gwinn.
