Soldiers From Coalition Assist New PoliceFacility Opens To Create New Era In Iraqi Police Service

Camp Taji, Iraq After a number of months of construction, the new police station in Shat Al Taji was dedicated on March 15th. A number of Coalition assets and units have labored in unison with Iraqi forces and private contractors in the planning, funding and construction of this new police station.

“Our goal is to better serve our citizens and enforce the rule of law for our people,” said Iraqi Major General Kaadim Hameed Sharhaan Al Muhamadani, the new Baghdad Commander of Police. General Al Muhamadani was at the dedication, and spoke addressing the crowd of well wishers, citizens, and coalition soldiers.

The new station is in the middle of Taji Qada, located to the northwest of Baghdad. It is hoped that with the new station, and the growing number of Iraqi National Police Officers that the security and peace currently in the region will be able to continue.

Observing the ceremony was the Commander of MNF Division 25th Infantry, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Colonel Todd B McCaffrey, Commander, was pleased that the station is now open and will be able to assume some of the duties of enforcement and security. “It is not about protecting one group only, the concern is about the law, not Shia, or Sunni, but to protect everyone,” said Colonel McCaffrey.

It was less than a year ago that the area in and around Taji was experiencing dark days, people lived in fear and terrorists literally roamed the streets. “Today things in Taji are much improved, and it has been great. Its been by our working together, Coalition, Iraqi Security, and Iraqi Police, as well as the citizens, that has led to things being so much better,’ said Colonel McCaffrey.
