Life Returns to Normal In Hawr Rajab

Life Returns to Normal In Hawr RajabAl Qaeda Routed And Citizens Relax

The last bunch of attacks from Al Qaeda in the Hawr Rajab area was in November 2007. Since then, the situation has begun to slowly return to normal, and the area is beginning to show signs of life that it has not experienced in years. Children are playing in the streets, shoppers are in the marketplace, and shops are open once again. The overall sense of fear that pervaded all life is gone, replaced by a cautious sense of optimism. Even the troops that patrol the village sense it, and are relieved.

Community leaders are working closely with Coalition troops and Iraqi National Police, as well as members from the Iraq National Army. The joint effort is bearing fruit, at least in the situation on the ground in Hawr Rajab.

The Sons Of Iraq program was still in its early stages when the last attacks on the village occurred. Since then, the citizen-based group has grown strong, and gathered a lot of support. Residents have worked together in various groups to help the Coalition and Joint forces, working together to reclaim their community and their village.
