Congressional Delegation Visits City
Iskandariyah, Iraq- A group of United States Senators recently visited Iraq.
Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, and Senator John McCain of Arizona visited the city of Iskandariyah and spoke with coalition officials, as well as taking an extended foot tour of the city. They examined the marketplace, and streets as well as speaking to local government officials from Iskandariyah and the region.
Commander of 3rd Infantry, Major General Rick Lynch personally took the Senators on their foot tour, and introduced them to villagers and local government officials. The visit began at the at the local police station security facility, where the Senators were given a briefing, and a general overview of the status of the area, and of the surrounding Iskandariyah community.
Lynch talked to the Senators about the capacity of the local Iraqi Economy, and the overall improvement of the Iraq Police and Security Forces in the region, and how much more the citizens are supporting the efforts over this time last year.

The Senators were told that the main focus for the communities such as Iskandariyah is stability and that security while still a concern is fast becoming a secondary issue. Lynch referred to money as more important currently than bullets, in lending and aiding to the overall security and stability of the region.
The Senators were impressed overall at the progress that has been made. Several members of the party had visited Iraq previously and remarked at the amount of positive change that has been made.
