Building On Earlier Successful Operations New Thrust Bears Fruit
Camp Victory, Iraq- There have been a number of successful thrusts in the Baghdad Area. Operation Marne Thunderbolt and Grand Slam have both been very successful in further pushing of Al Qaeda out of the region.
The latest thrust is currently Operation Marne Rugged. It kicked of March 15th, and promises to continue to be as successful at the earlier operations have been.
One aspect of the Operation Marne Rugged will be to set up and establish the Patrol Base Summers in the region. The base is a joint Coalition force and Iraqi Army forces base. It is called PB Summers after a soldier who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom III.
“We have discovered that when Iraqi Soldiers are based with our Coalition Forces in the same Patrol Base that we are very successful. The population comes to us, and gives us intelligence that we don’t realize when we have our own bases alone,” said Colonel Tom James. Colonel James is the Commander of 4th BCT.
Marne Rugged will work to eliminate any further Al Qaeda, and build the PB Summers, but it will also focus on building up the local forces.

Local citizens are very interested in joining the Sons of Iraq, and then open often to transitioning into positions with the Iraqi Security Forces. There are about 2,500 volunteers who appear eager to sign up, and Operation Marne Rugged will help them realize their wish to participate.
