As an Air Force Vehicle operator you will serve as driver and operator to the fleet of vehicles that the Air Force operates. This includes sedans, small cars, jeeps, Humvees, MRAP military vehicles, utility trucks, buses, and even in some situations eighteen Wheel Tractor Trailer combination that transport different materials and personnel. You will be responsible for dealing with hoists, cranes, wreckers, and material handling equipment. Being an Air Force Vehicle Operations specialist is a little like being a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. You will learn to operated literally anything that has wheels that the Air Force has in its fleet of vehicles, and in some cases even vehicles that have treads or tracks.
You will work to participate in movements and convoy operations to move munitions, supplies and out sized expeditionary forces. You will learn to navigate and read maps, and use compass readings to determine route and passage areas. You will be taught how not only to operate vehicles of every class, design and type but also to service and unload vehicles. You will learn how to keep careful records, and how to clean and perform basic maintenance on the vehicles that you operate. Assignments in a dispatch center, or vehicle operations center may be in your duty rotation, where you will be involved in dispatching, routing, and keeping vehicles headed in the correct direction at the correct time on the correct date.

You will be taught how to reply to vehicle requests, and how to assign and track vehicles that other military personnel check out for official Air Force and Coalition business. You will use automated software and hardware to keep track of vehicles, and modern computer systems to dispatch vehicles and operators.
After Basic training you will advanced to individual training at the Air Force Vehicle Operations school at Fort Wood, Missouri. After your technical school you will advance to your first duty station, and you will work as part of a vehicle Operations motor pool, assigning and tracking equipment for official Air Force Business.
If you are good with people, and a skillful driver, you will have an advantage if you choose this skilled occupation in the Air Force. Skilled Vehicle Operations Apprentices are always in demand, so this is an excellent specialty to receive training in.
