Engineering Enlisted Navy CareersWorking in the Navy in the Engineering field is a little bit like being a jack-of-all-trades. You will work on some of the most varied types of equipment that is in the Navy arsenal; you may be based on shore, on a submarine beneath the waves, or on one of the many surface vessels found in the Navy fleet. In some cases you may be even assigned to help work on one of the many aircraft that flies under the U.S. Navy flag. Working in the engineering field consists in total of working to maintain equipment that operates or propels the ships, submarines and aircraft that is part of the Navy Mission, and to keep them in proper working order and a state of high military readiness. Engineering sailors assist in helping field power for every single system that is found in the Navy. From assisting with a Nuclear reactor and propulsion plant on a cruiser or aircraft carrier, to the same system on a submarine, or operating steam, diesel and other propulsion systems, the Navy engineering staff is ready at all times to assist in keeping the fleet on the move. The Engineering field in the Navy is made for those people who are take charge, and can do type of individuals, people who can work well under pressure and that can deliver under a deadline. The Engineering field is wide open for sailors who have training in specialized electronic, computer or propulsion systems.
