3rd Infantry Soldiers Assist Child’s SurgerySmall Iraqi Girl Connected To American Medical Resources FOB Kalsu, Iraq- As relationships and bridge building between Coalition troops and the local citizens continue, slowly needs and areas needing attention become known. A small Iraqi girl who has been blind since birth faces the possibility of surgery to correct and repair her eyesight, thanks to the efforts of troops from the 3rd Infantry. Members of 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd BCT, and 30th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, and Company D discovered the small girl, and brought her to the battalion surgeon. Lieutenant Colonel Hee-Choon Lee, 1st Battalion Surgeon provided the initial diagnosis, and discovered that the child had been born with a birth defect and blind since birth. Both of her eyes have badly developed corneas, and possible surgery to correct this condition would mean a trip to the United States for the girl. Working with officials back home in the USA, Soldiers are working on the logistics and planning to see if this can be done. Are you interested in an exciting career in the Military? See if you qualify. Click Here Now! Eye Defects Research Foundation is a non-profit group based in Los Angeles, California, and is the program in the United States that is preparing to partner with the little girl and her family to attempt to solve her blindness. The medical evaluation by Colonel Lee in Iraq gives the Eye Defects doctors the needed information to evaluate the case and make informed decisions. Either way Coalition Soldiers are making preparations to find a way to transport the little girl and her uncle to the United States for medical treatment.
